Celebrating Constitution Day

In honor of Constitution Day on September 17th, our classes were introduced to the constitution last week. We discussed why the United States would need laws as a new country and that the constitution is a plan for the government. We reviewed the term democracy and briefly talked about how the bill of rights protects our right to speak, keep laws from being too hard, and protect our homes, among other things. Students learned that our constitution, the bill of rights, and our nation's laws protect the freedoms of all Americans by listing rights that all people have. Students worked as small groups to discuss how we should treat each other, rules they need to stay safe and learn, and what they always have the right to do. We then compared these topics to the U.S. constitution.
