Hoover Dam Engineers

It was a wonderful week with 4th grade in the southwest!
Learning about the building of the Hoover Dam was the most exciting adventure for many children last week. Students acted as engineers to solve three problems: what to do with the Colorado River during construction, what shape to make the dam, and how to harden so much cement. After reading about each of the problems, the engineering groups discussed and drew solutions. The groups presented their solution for each of the problems; we compared them and talked about what the engineers actually did. I was very pleased with the level of enthusiasm.
